baby boy…

after not blogging for an embarrassing amount of time, it’s kind of hard to decide what pictures to start with first. i photographed this baby boy at 4 weeks, and he was way more aware of his surroundings. he was happy for the entire session (unless we tried to take off his onesie!), and fell asleep at the end. i am lucky enough to be friends with his mama, so we get to see him often. my own son gets a bit jealous when i hold him!

four!…

this kid turned four today and said it was the best birthday ever! :)

he wanted a treasure chest filled with “pirate stuff and lots of treasure” so that is what he received. the mister made him the treasure box, and i even knitted a parrot to go along with everything. the parrot was named “squally” and although he is a little misshapen, he still went every where with us today.

i am way behind on bloging. i have been spending my evenings knitting and sewing, but will hopefully make some time to get caught up on my sessions from this year.

mardi gras…

i want to start off by saying that we have never really recognized mardi gras, and to be totally honest i really do not know anything about the holiday. i didn’t even know that today was mardi gras. until my daughter walked in the door from school with large silver beads around her neck, and yells “HAPPY MARDI GRAS” with an enormous smile on her face. they did celebrate it in school today. the mister picked her up from school this afternoon, because i am not a fan of driving if there is even a chance of the roads being icey. she was telling him about a cake on the ride home, and that there is a baby hidden inside. they were going to whole foods to pick up a pizza for dinner, and she saw one of these cakes in the bakery section. i wish i would have been there…i was told she was beyond excited. because a dad has a hard time saying no to his little girl, and also because a dad has a hard time saying no to cake in general, they brought one of these cakes home. to say the least, this cake didn’t look appetizing at all. it had green, yellow, and purple icing just tossed on. it came with a bag of 4 sets of beads, and a tiny golden baby. i had to google this cake, because i was clueless. here is what wikipedia says about king cake. and here are some photos of the cake and of some colorful photos they made to hang up, taken with the iphone.

one year old…

something that i need to keep reminding myself to do is to stop complaining about all of this snow. we had the most beautiful fall here in pittsburgh! this shoot was from mid-december, and i believe it was in the upper 40’s, possibly the mid 50’s. his mama and i were both praying for some warmer temps beforehand, so i am sure that helped too! :) i did his newborn shoot, and it has been so much fun to see him grow into a toddler. we have playgroup together on thursdays, and my son has never ever liked children smaller than himself. now he calls this little guy his “baby friend.” i love it! :)

Lately, my kids have been playing a lot of “house” as I called it growing up, and they completely crack me up with the things they come up with. The other day when we were on our way home from school, they decided to be brother and sister (go figure!) and I was their babysitter. There conversation went something like this…

Daughter: I can’t go to the birthday party because girls can’t go

Son: Uh huh, girls can go now

Me: Whose birthday party are you going to?

Daughter: I don’t know his name because I wasn’t invited

Son: He doesn’t have a name

Me: What did you buy him for his present?

Son: My mom bought him all kind of birthday stuff

Me: What kind of birthday stuff?

Son: Like cake, cereal…and…cupcakes and pizza

Daughter: Well I didn’t get him anything because I didn’t know I was allowed to go

Son: I will make him something then, and you can carry it in

Me: What are you going to make him?

Son: A light saber, and he said he wants the whole galaxy

Daughter: Well, now he is just being greedy

Son: I am going to call my mom and ask her to buy an Anakin costume at Target. Do you have a phone?

Daughter: I was texting too much at school so my teacher threw it away

I had to cut in there, and get out of character. I had no idea my daughter even knew what texting was. haha! :)
