missing the beach…

With the date being August 31, I feel like our summer is over. Our daughter started school last week and our son had his pre-kindergarten orientation this morning. He will be starting next week along with all of the other kids in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Our daughter wasn’t so happy that she had to start more than a week sooner than her brother, but I guess that is how it works with charter schools.

We had a great summer, besides it ending so quickly. There was camping trips (and hopefully we can fit a few more in!), baseball games, library visits (including the grand opening of the newly renovated East Liberty library), long visits to the park, sibling rivalry, eyeglasses for our son, ice cream trucks, sewing, thrift store shopping, visits to Vanilla and Dozen for cupcakes, canoeing at Cook Forest, kayaking at Lake Elizabeth, skateboarding in parking lots, swimming, naps, bike rides through our neighborhood, new tattoos, hiking in Frick Park, many picnics which usually included our own family baseball game and I am sure there is quite a few things I missed. I am sad to see summer go and the kids spending their days in school, but the cooler weather will be nice along with coffee shop visits with the mister.

babies in ties…

I may just have to make a bunch of these onesies with ties on them for future clients. Isn’t it adorable? I had to reschedule this session once because my daughter was sick. Mama wanted to get them done asap, before he got too chunky. I saw them at a picnic two weeks later, and she was right. It is amazing how quickly babies grow!

rain showers…

you can tell by the way this family is dressed how long ago this session took place. it is now hot, humid and miserable. i am so far behind in posting sessions, yikes! on this session, it was a rainy day but we had already rescheduled due to the rain the prior weekend. the rain never did pass over, so we made the best of the situation. umbrellas and boots always make fun props!

two weeks ago this little girl finished her kindergarten year. i really thought i was going to be an emotional mess picking her up. i may have teared up a tiny bit during their award ceremony, but mostly i was filled with pride. we opted out of pre-school, so she had no prior education before this year. i was worried about how she would do. she ended up doing great, and made a couple of BFF’s. she can pick up any book from her book shelf and read away. she is writing stories, that even i can read. she can count to 199. she can give a tour of frick park and identify many plants. the other day in the car she was surprised because she saw a brown ant. i told her that maybe it wasn’t an ant. she insisted it was because it had a “head, thorax and abdomen.” she is sassier than ever (that part we could do with out!) and the last week of school she lost TWO teeth. sadly the first one went down the drain while she was brusing her teeth, but thankfully the tooth fairy visited anyway.
