I just adore his big brown eyes. I found a new little spot to take pictures at today. Neither of my children really liked it, as it was on top of a table. But they both stayed still while I did my thing!

She is learning to pose, and I am trying to understand how to properly expose an photograph. In the shade I am doing much better, but I am struggling in the open sun. But I am having fun learning, and I am surprised at how quickly I am catching on. I know I have a long ways to go, but it’s exciting for me to see the progress I have made. Also having a blog is pushing me to have more “blog worthy” pictures to post, even though I don’t think anyone is reading this!

I am not sure which crop I prefer. So I just added both.

And also, just a quick self portrait of the two of us! I thought it was cute.

I really like this picture of him. I know it looks like more of a snapshot than a portrait, but this little boy just loves to be outside. He just wanders eveywhere, eats everything, and takes a lot of tumbles. He won’t stay still long enough for me get much of him, so right now this portrays him very well.

Spring is here, which I am so excited about! I can not practice manual in our home, there is not enough natural light. I can never get a proper exposure. Finally the weather is nice. My poor children, they have to be so tired of me always putting a camera in there face when all they want to do is play! But this Mom needs some play time too!

My husband is finally finished up with school, and has a job. So now we finally get to move and find a new apartment. Right now he drives over an hour to and from work, and it is too much for all of us. I thought looking for a new apartment would be fun, it is something we haven’t done for almost 5 years now. I sure was wrong. We are looking for a loft in Pittsburgh. Some of the things we want are either hardwood floors or finished cement floors. No carpeting. Exposed brick would be nice. A lot of natural light. Nice neighborhood, with a nearby park that we could walk to. Last week we looked at the Heinz Lofts. Very nice building, very secure..but, it didn’t have the things we want. So hopefully we can visit somewhere else this week.

The only thing fun about this all is the trip to the city, and getting to snap a lot of pictures.

I absolutely love taking pictures. It has become such a passion of mine. My favorite thing to photograph is obviously children. They just have so much in them, and it makes me so happy when I capture their personalities, or that perfect look, or real smile..not the cheesy kind. I have been visiting so many message boards, trying to learn everything I can. Because I am learning more I am really getting picky, trying to make my pictures look like everyone elses. Trying to shoot in manual, because that is what the pros do. Well, I am not a pro. I have been playing with settings and completely ruining pictures that have really captured my little ones personalities. Those moments are lost now..yes, I can dress them in the same outfit, and take them back out again, but its not the same. I would rather get the shot by using my auto modes, rather than losing it all together. Most of my photos aren’t “technically perfect”, a little soft, maybe a hand is chopped off, but I love them, and I am proud of them. I am still going to keep practicing with manual, and learn all of the ins and outs of photography…but if I am unsure, and I really don’t want to lose a shot, I am not going to hesitate to switch my camera over to auto. My pictures make me happy, and I hope that someday I can capture other families, so they can look back year after year and remember their children’s younger years.

Just a quick post. I met a new friend today, Heather. The top little girl is hers. I had so much fun taking pictures with her. Although more than half of my images came out underexposed, I feel like I am improving on composition. And I also learned to take my shudder speed WAY up in bright sunlight! This evening I also photographed my niece, who was such a great model. She really enjoyed it, probably because her mom isn’t constantly making her pose for pictures!
